Six gambling bills are heading to the floor of the state legislature to face debate. but none come with a committee recommendation for passage. The House Ways and Means committee voted Thursday not to recommend the last two bills under consideration. One would permit video slot machines at the states four racetracks. The other would allow for a casino to be built in Berlin as a way to ease economic strain on that region. |

We'd like to help put the gambling debate in perspective. Last October, the New Hampshire Travel Council hosted a round table discussion on expanded gambling in New Hampshire. The event was held at the Mount Washington Hotel where panelists from within and outside the state debated issues ranging from state sponsored casinos to slot machines at race tracks. We now bring you part of that discussion. |

Without more money for security - district courthouses will shut down March First. That's the word from the administrator of New Hampshire's district courts. Last year the legislature cut about one-point-eight million dollars from the courts' two-year security budget. Judge Edwin Kelly says the courts are almost out of money for security. Lawmakers are considering a bill to transfer 300 thousand dollars from the state's capital budget to the court system. |

On Capitol hill Thursday, Alan Greenspan told a Senate panel he's seeing a number of encouraging signs that the recession could soon be over. That leads many economists to believe the central bank will decide to leave interest rates unchanged. |

In response to Greenspan's announcement stocks gained ground for a second straight session. The Dow added more than 65 points. The Nasdaq posted a 20-point gain. Here's a look at stocks of interest to New Hampshire investors. Lockheed Martin ended the day up a dollar 41. Shares of Raytheon rose 2 dollars and 14 cents.Texas Instruments was up a dollar 45. Sanmina Sci ended the day down 91 cents. And Verizon was down a dollar five. |

AP-NH--Household Hazwaste dewlac Wolfeboro opening household hazwaste site -- New Hampshire's third collection site for household hazardous waste could open as early as spring in Wolfeboro. The Lakes Region Planning Commission has been working with numerous towns since 1986 to hold one-day collections of cleaning agents, oil-based paint and other household chemicals that can become dangerous if mixed or discarded improperly. Now, barring a hitch with funding, the new regional collection point will be open at least six days a year. The Wolfeboro site will join existing sites in Keene and Nashua. AP |
